“Already booked for next year” Bradford D H Yorkshire Mar 24, 2010 | Trip type: Couples I have been back for about a month now but have already booked to go back to the Silver Sands next year. This was my first time in Goa and I was expecting basic accomodation. The rooms are basic but have pretty much everything that you need. As mentioned in the previous review you do get power cuts but these occur everywhere (Goa has approx 6 power cuts a day but never last more than about ten minutes). The staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you and our room was cleaned every day over 2 weeks. The pool is reasonable but we were that close to the beach we spent most of our time there. In short, as long as you remember you are in India and not St Tropez then you can’t really complain at the hotel. It is brilliantly located and was just what I was looking for. We have been to Goa many times but this was our first experience of a 2-star and I can only say that the accomodation is just as good as all the 3-stars we have stayed at and the service the best ever !!!! All the staff are fantastic, you could not ask for more and the food at all the hotel's restaurants was excellent !! There were 11 of us in the group aging from 50 - 65 and we all agreed when we return to Goa we will be back to Silver Sands, don't look any further unless you are looking for 5 star luxury – even then you won't beat the service. Having read the reviews and having only booked to stay in a standard room we were a bit nervous but need not have worried. The rooms, by Goan standards, are far from basic - cleaned daily, fresh towels & linen every other day, new mattresses & constant hot water. We booked with First Choice who were excellent - they seem to have the better rooms allocated to them - ours overlooked the pool shown on the website & were light & airy, with a lovely balcony. Due to a delayed departure we spent the last night in a superior room usually booked by Cosmos & Jewel in the Crown This was in the Annexe which fronted the main road & was very noisy - also the pool for this bit wasn't the best & the bed rock hard! As a party of four we had requested adjoining rooms but when we arrived this hadn't been possible. However, we asked if we could move when a room became available & did so after a couple of nights - nothing is too much trouble for the reception staff. The waiters are all friendly & helpful & the bar area means there is plenty of company in the evenings if you want it. The grounds & pool were well kept & while we were there the hotel was quiet & peaceful. We would gladly return here next year ... its just a shame that Thomsons/First Choice are discontinuing the East Midlands flights after 2010. Well recommended.
